Pom Harrington has worked in the rare book business for more than a quarter of a century, having grown up in one of the most respected book-selling families in Britain.
His father, Peter Harrington, issued his first catalogue from a stall at Chelsea Antiques Market in 1969 as part of Harrington Brothers – a rare book dealership Pom joined in 1994, where he started learning the trade working alongside his father and uncle, Adrian.
In 1997 Pom joined his father in setting up Peter Harrington at Fulham Road in Chelsea and since then has helped grow the business into what is today – the largest rare and antiquarian book dealership in the UK and Europe, with two gallery-style stores in London, in Mayfair and Chelsea. Peter Harrington is globally respected for buying and selling some of the finest quality first-edition, signed and inscribed copies of rare books and is one of the most sought-after advisory and curatorial rare book dealerships in the UK.
A collector himself, Pom Harrington firmly believes that rare book collecting should be fun and personal. He credits the “instinctual approach to rare book buying” he believes he inherited from his father for driving much of his book buying habits.
Pom is Chairman of Firsts – London’s Rare Book Fair – and the Vice President of the ABA (Antiquarian Book Association), the senior trade body for rare books in the UK which ensures the experience, expertise and integrity of its members.
