Each plate is accompanied by an excerpt from the text and explanation of the image by the artist. Contributors include G. Cattermole, P. Dewint, J. D. Harding, and G. F. Robson, amongst other successful landscape artists, their work etched by the Findens with the "elaborate finish and precision for which their work had become known" (ODNB). 2 vols, tall octavo (295 x 225 mm). With 80 plates engraved by Edward and William Finden, with paper guards. Contemporary tan calf by Clarke & Bedford, titles to black morocco labels to spines fully gilt in compartments, gilt frame to covers surrounding 3 gilt armorial devices, edges and turn-ins gilt, marbled endpapers. Binder's stamp to head of front free endpapers verso. Book label from Milton Hall, the historic home of the Fitzwilliam family, to front pastedowns. Rubbing to extremities and spine labels, scratches to boards, occasional foxing to margins of plates, light offsetting to guards, a very good, attractive set.
