The deluxe 'Blue' edition limited to 50 copies signed on the limitation page by Barnes and inscribed with a quotation from the book "No morning dawns, No night returns, But what we think of thee", and signed and dated by Hodgkin. Hodgkin spent six months interspersing Barnes story with hand-coloured prints, the shades and density of his colouring differing slightly from copy to copy. The individual prints are Untitled (Morris Car) and Untitled (Landscape). Octavo. Frontispiece hand-painted in 3 colour acrylics on Venables laid 185 gsm gelatine sized document paper circa 1950 and 6 hors-texte double page intaglio etchings on copper plates using lift ground sugar and aquatint, 4 with hand-colouring in acrylics on Aquerelle Arches 185 gsm paper. Accompanied with 2 individual lift ground sugar life and aquatint etchings, hand-coloured, (sheet sizes 18.5 x 27 cm), signed, numbered and dated on the verso by Hodgkin. Original blue wrappers and text pages hand-painted in Primary Cyan Acrylic on Fabriano 5 160 gsm paper. With dust jacket hand-painted in Primary Cyan Acrylic on Somerset 300 gsm white text paper. Housed in a silver cloth fitted box (the 2 individual prints in a folder attached to the lid) and matching slipcase. Titles in silver to spine of slipcase. All in excellent condition. Heenk p218-9.
