DUTT, Devendra Nath.

  • Published: 1909 , Calcutta: [for the author,]
Calcutta: [for the author,], 1909. First edition. Uncommon, WorldCat showing BL and University of Illinois only. Attractively produced history of the Hathwa Raj in Bihar, this copy inscribed to "Her Excellency Lady Rutherford by Dowager Maharani Sahiba of Hathwa". Sir Thomas Rutherford was governor of Bihar, and later Bengal. Octavo. Portrait frontispiece, dedication leaf printed in red within an elaborate gold border, surmounted by the arms of Hutwa embossed and in colours and gilt, folding genealogical table, mounted on linen, in end-pocket. Original red cloth, title gilt to spine and front cover, medallic devices representing the British Empire Medal, the star of a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire, obverse and reverse of the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal, and the arms of Hutwa blocked in gilt to front cover, cream surface-paper endpapers. A little rubbed, the spine sunned and a little marked at the tail from the removal of a label, front endpapers neatly renewed, rear free endpaper browned verso and slightly brittle, short split to the flap of the end-pocket, but overall very good and remains attractive.
