A Modern Theory of Ethics is Stapledon's first published work of prose, based on the thesis for his PhD in philosophy awarded at the University of Liverpool in 1925. The recipient, A. M. Carr-Saunders (1886-1966), was a biologist and eugenicist and the author of The Population Problem. He is credited by Stapledon on page vi of the introduction to this volume for "advice on those chapters which refer to biological principles". Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover lettered in blind. Cloth a little rubbed, corners bumped, very faint toning to endpapers. An excellent copy.
