original letter. FILDES, Sir Samuel Luke (1843-1927). Autograph letter signed declining an invitation to a dinner. 14 November 1898. Single page folded, three pages, on Holland House, Kingsgate, Broadstairs headed paper. Light central fold and a few minor marks, otherwise very good. Fildes thanks his correspondent for notice of the dinner but regrets that he cannot attend while staying in Broadstairs, observing that travelling into town on a Sunday would make it rather a big job spanning over three days and that he would be staying in Broadstairs over Christmas. Sir Luke Fildes was a prominent Victorian painter and illustrator, best known for The Doctor and for his work for Charles Dickens. . Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1898.
