original letter. FILDES, Sir Samuel Luke (1843-1927). Autograph letter signed arranging a studio appointment to view a picture. 11 Melbury Road, Kensington, 28 March 1879. Single sheet, written on one side. Old fold, otherwise near fine. Fildes tells an unidentified correspondent that he will be most happy to show him his picture the following day, asking him to say when he enquires so that an appointment can be arranged. Sir Luke Fildes was a leading Victorian painter and illustrator, closely associated with Charles Dickens through his illustrations for The Mystery of Edwin Drood. He later became particularly known for his social-realist subjects and portraits, and was elected a Royal Academician in 1887. . Near Fine. Soft cover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1879.
