Publisher's blue cloth lettered in black; with the original pictorial dust jacket priced 7/6 net. Cloth a little sunned along the spine and upper board edges; endpapers showing patches of offsetting and sun fading; corners and spine ends with minor fraying, but the binding clean and presentable. The jacket with chipping to spine tips, short closed tears, minor rubbing and small areas of loss at extremities, but showing the full illustrated design and unclipped. An about very good copy.  A late historical romance by Baroness Orczy. Subtitled "A True Romance of the '60s", the story is set against the political and personal entanglements of a fictionalised European court, with themes of duty, loyalty, and concealed identity typical of her work following the enormous success of The Scarlet Pimpernel.  First editions in jacket and in collectible condition are as elusive as the Pimpernel, due to Hodder and Stoughton's mid-1930s productions being printed on paper susceptible to loss.
