William Heinemann. London: William Heinemann (1926) 8vo; publisher's quarter vellum, top edge gilt, other edges rough-trimmed, with gilt lettering to the spine; in the original cream dust wrapper with blue lettering to the front and spine, also displaying the price on the spine of 31s. 6d.; [viii] 343pp; inserted in the original envelope is a fold out sheet of the trade dust wrapper, printed on japon vellum by the illustrator E.G. Perman; the author has signed his name to the limitation page, this is copy 123 of 275 numbered copies; overall a sharp very near fine copy, with a couple of light marks on the upper board and foxing in places on the end papers; otherwise a stunning copy. ODTAA or One Damn Thing After Another, was the second novel to be set by Masefield in the fictional land of Santa Barbara, where two factions: the reds and the whites are at constant loggerheads with each other. The story is set within a tumultuous political climate and unrest within the populous, with various personal and social dilemmas unfolding at the story bobs along. Although the land richly described by Masefield was a work of fiction, the author fused his landscape to fit somewhere in the real world, in South America, and introduced characters from real countries including England. This is an exceptional copy, that a previous owner wrapped in a brown cover, so preserving the dust wrapper and keeping it away from the elements. He did the book proud as it presents as an almost fine example. A superior copy. . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1926.
