First UK edition. Harold Pinter has signed his name to the title page without dedication. The play premiered at the Royal National Theatre in October 1988 starring Michael Gambon and Miranda Richardson. It was a short one act play based in and outside of a prison following a group of prisoners as they come to terms with their native language being banned. There was a theme from Pinter throughout of the use of language and oppression, perhaps in reference to political events in the country at that time. . Fine.
