The revised edition by Armitage, and the first to be illustrated by Hicks-Jenkins, a Welsh artist whose canon of work includes paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, maquettes, animation and artist's books. The pair later collaborated again on a project in 2019 which sought to retell the story of Hansel and Gretel. The book was published by Design for Today. "A poem is never finished", writes Armitage in his introduction to the revised edition, "only abandoned. I reconsidered some of the original decisions I'd made, and some of the missteps I'd taken."
