A History of Siam.

WOOD, William Alfred Rae.

London: T. Fisher Unwin, Ltd,, 1926. First edition, first impression. This is a comprehensive survey of Thailand's history, with a particular focus on its monarchy; notably scarce in commerce. William Alfred Rae Wood (1878-1970) was appointed to the British consular service in Thailand in 1896, and became consul-general in 1921, a post he held until retirement in 1931. This meticulous work is especially valuable for its coverage of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, King Taksin the Great of the Thonburi Kingdom, relations with France, and the Anglo-Siamese war involving the British East India Company. Wood concludes with a detailed table of kings, princes and princesses, prominent officials, in addition to Cambodian kings. Octavo. With half-tone photographic frontispiece of King Prajadhipok, 10 similar plates, one map of Siam. Original dark blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, title blind-stamped on front cover, endpapers renewed, top edge cut, others uncut. A touch rubbed, spine toned with neat repairs to ends, occasional marks to cloth and edges, scattered foxing, some leaves roughly opened. A very good copy.
