Copenhagen: SteepleChase - Nippon Phonogram Co. Ltd,, 1975. Signed boldly in full by Gordon in black marker pen on left side of front cover. This is the first Japanese pressing of Dexter's first album as leader for the Danish SteepleChase label. Here he is teamed with Kenny Drew (piano), the ever-reliable Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (Bass) and Albert "Tootie" Heath (drums). Gordon had settled in a suburb of Copenhagen in 1962 and recorded many times for SteepleChase. Of his extended periods away from America, he commented "the fact that you're an artist in Europe means something. They treat you with a lot of respect. In America, you know, they say, 'Do you make any money?'"(interview with Chuck Berg, Down Beat, Sept. 1989, p. 82, cited in American National Biography). 12-inch vinyl LP (SteepleChase RJ-7101), new plain paper sleeve (original sleeve also present and separate liner notes in Japanese), original album cover. Without the obi band, spine of cover sunned, just a little shelf wear otherwise very good; disc in excellent condition.
