Ornette Coleman in Concert, August Fifth Nineteen Hundred Sixty-eight - original Fillmore West 1968 concert poster.

COLEMAN, Ornette.

  • Published: 1968 , San Francisco: Tea Lautrec litho.
San Francisco: Tea Lautrec litho., 1968. Brilliantly effective, big and bold psychedelic poster for an appearance by free jazz innovator Coleman at Bill Graham's Fillmore West. This poster was not numbered in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series - it would fall between BG 131 and 132 - but does feature in the Unusual Fillmore Shows section in the Art of Rock (p.153, plate 2.80). Line up for the show was Coleman, alto, trumpet, violin, Dewey Redman tenor, Ornette's 12 year-old son Denardo Coleman on drums, Charlie Hayden [sic] bass, and Robert Bradford "guest artist, trumpet", who to his own recall was not there; "I didn't make that gig. I'm on the poster, but I wasn't there, I can't remember why". Light card stock window card poster (515 x 358 mm). White edged red lettering by Doré superimposed over a sheet of the score of Coleman's Sun Suite of San Francisco, white on dark purple. Framed and glazed (overall 594 x 436 mm). Pin holes to the corners else very good.
