Friends of the ABA visit to Sir Paul Getty’s Library at Wormsley

We are delighted to offer an exclusive tour of the Sir Paul Getty Library at Wormsley this autumn season to Friends and Members of the ABA, in partnership with the British Antique Dealers Association.

The late Sir Paul Getty spent 25 years assembling one of the finest private collection of books and manuscripts in the world, and when he moved to Wormsley he commissioned the building of the castellated Library as an extension of the main house.

This outstanding collection includes Anne Boleyn’s Psalter, the first edition of Caxton’s printing of The Canterbury Tales and the first folio of Shakespeare’s “Comedies, Histories and Tragedies”.

We most fortunate to have Robert Harding from Maggs Bros. as our guide for the afternoon. Robert has worked at Maggs for over 40 years and is a Director of the Early British Department, which handles books before about 1800, and has written on the History of Collecting in the 17th century. Robert is an expert on the 17th century etcher Wenceslaus Hollar, so we will be in expert hands for the afternoon.

This is a very rare opportunity to see this stunning collection at close hand.

If any guests wish to have lunch beforehand then Wormsley has recommended the Chilterns Fox which is just five minutes away. If you wish to eat there you need to book a table in advance. The number is 01494 504264.
