With borders and illustrations after Daniel Maclise on every page engraved by F.P. Becker, marked PROOF. iv, 280 pp. 1 vols. Tall 8vo. The First edition of Moore’s work, and one that his friend artist Daniel Maclise endeavored to make a truly fine production, inventing decorative borders for all pages in addition to his many illustrations. More was very pleased with the results and spoke of an “Irish Pencil” having lent its aid to an “Irish Pen.” By his treatment of illustrations and text as a unit, and the elaboration of detail, Maclise introduced into England the effects achieved by the German illustrators of the 1830s and early 1840s. Widely acknowledged to be Maclise’s best book. Ray 29
