Re bound in modern quarter calf gilt "ΕΛΛΑΣ" [in Greek] over marbled boards. Black & white lithographs. The work consists of a series of articles about ancient Greek life, monuments and antiquities, each accompanied by a plate. The plates show views, maps, monuments and statues. A number of the plates are signed by I Brodtman and are new lithographic versions of earlier plates; some of the architectural plates are after Stuart & Revett. Other of the plates are after Leake ,Pirenesi ,Visconti Choisel Gouffier &c The view of Athens ( plates XIV & XV) shows the Acropolis above the busy Ottoman town, with many minarets showing the fortified walls and the Roman antiquities, and looking across the sea to the Peloponnesus.
