Maclehose, Jackson & Co. Glasgow.,1924. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. Inscribed with a poem in Latin and English by the Author to a descendant of Walter Scott. Mounted into the back of the book is an envelope containing a hand written note from the Author to Mr Scott, on Abbotsford headed notepaper, dated 1931. The note mentions the poem written in the book and also Maxwell's regret at having to leave "this historic house" without meeting him to tell him how much he enjoyed his visit. Illustrated with 8 mono plates. A fine clean copy in early half blue calf binding, spine with raised bands, gilt. Cloth on boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Small label of A. Constable Maxwell on front free endpaper. Spine uniformly faded to a bluey grey. Overall a very good attractively bound copy.:
