Outer Dark

McCarthy, Cormac

  • Publisher: Andr? Deutsch
  • Published: 1970 , London
  • Condition: Near Fine
First UK edition, first impression (London: André Deutsch, 1970). Octavo. Original dark blue cloth, spine lettered in silver. With the publisher's pictorial dust jacket priced £1.80 (36s) net on the front flap. A fine copy of McCarthy's second novel, the UK edition having appeared in 1970, following that of the US which was issued in 1968. The cloth is clean and unfaded, with only gentle toning to the text-block edges. The jacket is near fine: bright, unfaded, and unusually crisp, with only very minor and isolated traces of wear to extremities and lower flap fore-edge. No inscriptions. 'Outer Dark' further develops the bleak, mythic, and morally fraught terrain that would come to define McCarthy's early Appalachian fiction. UK first editions of McCarthy's early works were printed in small numbers and survive far less frequently in collectible condition than their American counterparts.
