Inner hinges cracked but holding firmly. 125 x 90 mm. Publisher's embossed cloth ; upper cover with central gilt embossed design of two Victorian women shaking hands, with blind stamped decorative corner-pieces and borders. Spine slightly faded. Archaic advice to 1840's women included such as, "When a gentleman offers to dance with you, do not, unless for some very special reason, refuse", "Ladies of a short stature, should never allow the trimmings of their gowns to trespass half way to the knee", "a small voice is still considered an excellent thing in a woman", "When asked by any of the company to take wine during dinner, compliance is essential. To refuse would be considered rude". A court levee was a royal court gathering. The court was the centre of royal power and attended by nobles and other landed people of high social standing.
