Born in 1943 in Texas, she rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of the psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. Tragically, she died of a heroin overdose in 1970 at the age of 27, leaving behind a legacy as a trailblazing icon of the counterculture movement. No autobiography of Joplin exists and this, Caserta's account, is excessively scarce.
