First edition, first impression and first state with 'First published 1964' to copyright page. Original black cloth with Japanese lettering to upper board in gilt and in English to spine in silver with bamboo patterned endpapers and paste-downs. Light traces of off-setting to endpapers, else near fine and beautifully clean and sharp throughout. The original and unclipped dust jacket has a couple of isolated spots to verso and very shallow chips to corners with a couple of minuscule nicks to spine tips, otherwise an excellent, near fine example.
