In very good to fine condition. Small pictorial bookplate Fernando de Mello Mendes. Smaller tag with presumed shelf location or accession number tipped on to upper outer corner of front pastedown. 240 pp. *** FIRST and ONLY EDITION of this book of poems. José Leite de Vasconcellos (1858–1941), descendant of a noble family of Resende, enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an ethnographer, archaeologist, philologist and literary historian. Provenance: Fernando de Mello Mendes (1925-2019) was a Portuguese mining engineer, bibliophile and art collector. As an art collector, over almost 50 years, he gathered an unusual and important collection of sacred art and other artifacts related to the veneration of Santa Bárbara , patron saint of mineiros; dating from the 16th century to the present day, 160 of the most emblematic pieces in this collection make up, since 2022, the permanent exhibition "Santa Bárbara, Patron Saint of Miners and Other Arts", on display in an underground gallery 230 meters deep in the Mina de Rock salt from Loulé. *** Innocêncio, Aditamentos, p. 244.
