Personal scrapbook of Charles Langestaff Forster; successively the founder member, Captain, Secretary and Chairman of the Newcastle upon Tyne Quayside Golfing Society and President of the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs. Signed by Foster to the front free endpaper. A comprehensive collection of newspaper clippings, 32 original photographs (of which 22 are full-page), player signatures, club fixture menus and reports and results relating to the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Quayside Golfing Society and Alnmouth Golf Club and Mr Fosters membership and involvement thereof. Half calf with gilt titles and ruling to spine. Covers scuffed with light wear to spine. A little scattered light foxing otherwise contents clean. A Very Good copy with Mr Forster's signature in pencil to ffep. A substantial, important and unique record of the early golfing fraternity in Newcastle Upon Tyne by one of its principle sportsmen. Annotated titles to the original photographs include 'At Newbiggin, 1920', 'Hexham' and numerous signatures of club members. Forster is the subject of a large 1921 newspaper cartoon clipping included in the collection and is featured in several of the photographs and many of the reports throughout the 200 page scrapbook. A keen sportsman, Mr Forster also presented a number of trophies including a set of silver-backed brushes during the Miners Coal Strike of 1920, and is the subject of a humorous toast given at the annual dinner of the Newcastle Quaysiders, an inscribed copy of which is included.
