Note: The Middle Way is a scarce book on political philosophy that advocated a broadly centrist approach to the domestic and international problems of that time, and was written during a period when Macmillan was out of active office. The Middle Way is not signed. A six-volume memoir, each being a SIGNED FIRST EDITION, accompanied by a scarce early work of political philosophy 'The Middle Way'. Seven volumes, octavo (22 x 15 x 28cm). Publisher's hardcovers in dust-wrappers. "Winds of Change": Publisher's red boards with gilt spine lettering. A near fine copy in like D/W with mild rubbing at the head and tail of the spine; "The Blast of War": Publisher's red boards with gilt spine lettering. A near fine copy in like D/W with tiny rubs to the extremities; "Riding the Storm": A near fine copy in a VG+ D/W with minor surface loss at the head and tail of the spine and a rub to the bottom/middle of the front cover; "Pointing the Way": Publisher's red boards with gilt spine lettering. Slight pushing at the base of the spine otherwise a near fine copy in a VG+ D/W with minor surface loss at the head and tail of the spine with a couple of nicks to the head; "At the End of the Day": Publisher's red boards with gilt lettering to the spine. A near fine copy in a close to fine D/W. A striking set, each volume a SIGNED FIRST EDITION in D/W in collectable condition and scarce thus. "The Middle Way": Publisher's maroon boards with gilt spine lettering. Minor foxing to the fore-edge otherwise a near fine copy in a complete D/fayed at the head of the spine and with several minor marks to the D/W. The Six Volume of Macmillan Memoirs together with The Middle Way are housed in a black, custom-made, fleece-lined, presentation slip-case. Provenance: The Memoirs were all signed as a favour to a well-known Suffragette neighbour of the former Prime Minister, Margery Corbett Ashby, who has her name on the Millicent Fawcett memorial in Parliament Square. This is the complete autobiography of 'Supermac'; Britain's Prime Minister from 1957-1963. A Keynesian economist who presided over an age of affluence, financial growth and low unemployment, Macmillan famously stated that Britons 'never had it so good.'
