London; A Baldwin, 1700., 1700. Softcover. Octavo. [2], 45 pp, [1] blank. Book Condition: Very Good. Modern plain card wraps. Cropped to edge with very minor loss to margins of text to edges pp 14, 21/2, 29/30 (single letters per line lost, so easy to follow). A little soiling and small nick top edge to title page and light soiling to final blank. Povey (c 1651 - 1743) was a litigious entrepreneur based in London; during his long career he was involved in numerous insurance and related schemes and set up a rival service to the penny post for letter deliveries within the city, as well as pursuing interests in the coal trade. From humble origins himself, he devoted much energy to the cause of poor relief and charitable works. Scarce- Copac locates just four copies at holdings in the UK and a single copy in Ireland.
