Povey (c 1651 - 1743) was a litigious entrepreneur based in London; during his long career he was involved in numerous insurance and related schemes and set up a rival service to the penny post for letter deliveries within the city, as well as pursuing interests in the coal trade. From humble origins himself, he devoted much energy to the cause of poor relief and charitable works. Scarce- Copac locates just four copies at holdings in the UK and a single copy in Ireland.
