The Pickworth Fragment : With The Scarce Publisher’s Prospectus

Graham, Rigby

  • Publisher: Brewhouse Press, Wymondham, England
  • Published: 1966 , UK
  • Condition: Near Fine
The sole UK printing published by The Brewhouse Press, Wymondham, England in 1966. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Quarter suede leather, illustrated paper-covered boards, title gilt-stamped on spine and front cover. Unpaginated. A hint of rubbing to the gilt titling on the spine. Light spotting in places but the prints remain clean. Limited to only 75 numbered copies, this copy is unnumbered and is a presentation copy : 'Advance copy to Rod Cave with the compliments of The Brewhouse Private Press' and is initialled by Trevor Hickman (printer/binder). The recipient was the author Roderick Cave, who has worked with rare book collections and in developing information science courses in libraries and universities in the Americas, Australasia, and East Asia as well as in Britain. A print historian and librarian for many years, Cave was formerly a UNESCO consultant. A print sequence with accompanying text by Rigby Graham with an elegy by John Clare. 'The whirlwind binding' is described in the colophon as 'a bastard form of sempu-yo.' Pages are accordion fold. with twenty striking colour prints. Accompanied by the very scarce foldout paper prospectus. This describes the forthcoming production as having twenty four prints and also would be fifteen feet long when folded out. The production was clearly down-sized between the promotional and actual publication time frames. The prospectus is in near fine condition with only a little creasing to the upper edge. A highlight in Private Press production and extremely scarce with such attributes. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
