A monograph of the pheasants

BEEBE, William

  • Publisher: Witherby
  • Published: 1922 , London
London: Witherby, 1922. FIRST EDITION. With 90 colored plates of birds by Thorburn, Lodge, Gronvold and others, 88 photogravure plates of habitats and scenery and 20 distribution maps. All tissue guards present. Original cloth, title in gilt on cover and spine; an excellent set. First edition of one of the earliest definitive studies of pheasants in their natural habitats. Only 600 copies were printed of this splendid book on birds, our copy being number 555. “The material for this admirable work on pheasants was collected by the author from, among other sources, his study of the collections of type specimens in the museums of London, Tring, Paris, Berlin and on journey of several months duration to South and East Asia. He, thus, had an opportunity of studying these birds in their natural habitats . . . The plates are beautifully and accurately reproduced” (Anker).
