The Holy Bible. A Critical Commentary and Paraphrase on the Old and New Testament and the Apocrypha

[BIBLE]

  • Publisher: London: Richard Priestley, 1822
London: Richard Priestley, 1822. FINELY BOUND. Quarto (32 x 26 x 28cm). Bound in contemporary diced tan calf, gilt titles on black calf squares to spine, all edges marbled, marbled endpapers. Frontispiece engraving of Bishop Patrick to volume I, folding map of the Holy Lands in volume V. Bookplate of Rev. Robert Knox to pastedowns. Internally fresh with just occasional spotting. All volumes lightly rubbed, some marks and scoring, some wear and scuffing to the extremities, corners slightly bumped. Some leather on the upper board of volume II pasted down where is has been cut and lifted, volume III neatly respined with the original spine laid on, neat repair to the head cap of volume IV. All told a very handsome presentation in an aged and moderately handled contemporary binding. Very good. Based on previous work by Patrick, Lowth, Arnald, Whitby, and Lowman this is a new edition corrected by the Reverend J.R. Pitman.
