The Bee aligned "diverse interests in agricultural, commercial, and political reform, as well as the antiquarian interests of the Earl of Buchan (who published many of his essays there) and the poetry of Robert Burns, who was a subscriber, Anderson presented his periodical as a portable coffee house with permissive terms of entry" (Oxford Handbook of British Romanticism, p. 37). 18 vols, octavo (174 x 106 mm). Illustrated throughout with portraits, plates and maps. contemporary half calf, red morocco labels, vol. numbers in gilt direct, marbled sides, yellow edges; save for vol. V which is supplied, a little shorter, and recently bound to style. book label of Iain J. A. S. Wolley to front pastedowns of all vols save no. V.
