QUR-AN Arabic manuscript on fine burnished paper. 303 leaves, with one additional flyleaf; 17cm x 11cm, 15 lines to the page, written in naskh script in black ink, verses separated by gold roundels pointed in blue and red, surah heading sin red ink framed in gold borders decorated with floral motifs in blue, red and gold marginal floral or other devices. Red and black catchwords, opening illuminated double-page frontice composed of layers of blue, gold and red interlacing flowers surrounding 3-part title block lettered in black with floating gold clouds; upper and lower gold, red and green rectangles of white lettering on gold. Colophon in round cartouche of gold on last leaf. Original richly gilt decorated wallet binding in thin dark red leather (burnished goatskin), inlaid green and gilt doublures, backstrip finely restored. All leaves, gilt and ink in fresh condition with a bit of rubbing noticeable on last leaf of text, trace of light soil in margins of title, small blank corner broken off top right title leaf of text, trace of light soil in margins of title, small blank corner broken off top right title leaf with old paper repair on verso, occasional smudging. Colophon leaf identifies the illuminator as Khalil bin Sulaiman al-Akhanahwi, the scribe as "Uthman al-Said al-Haj Muhammad H[i]mi in the village (baldah) of Amasya (Turkey), and that the Qur'an was owned by teacher al-Said Hassan ibn al-Said Muhammad ibn [al-]Halil, 1152 AH (1739 CE).
