William Smith’s 1815 map A Delineation of the Strata of England and Wales with Part of Scotland is a landmark in geological history and a pivotal moment in Smith’s life. It was the first detailed map of any country, showing the different landscapes and varieties of soil according to the variations in the substrata.  First published by John Cary in London in 1815, it is on offer from Daniel Crouch Rare Books for £100,000.
