Julian Roberts Fine Books

Julian Roberts Fine Books
I have always had an interest in books and libraries; well, for as long as I remember anyway. Not the sort of highly visible, glamorous Country House library but more the private library – the “guilty pleasure” – put together by one and to be shared by one and one only; these small libraries are often strictly devoted to a single subject and are collected with furious and determined ambition. I am in tune with this type of collecting and indeed it was this sort of driving passion that led to me dealing full time in books nearly twenty years ago. I found that book dealing gave me the opportunity to buy and hold (albeit for a short time) titles in condition and value that I really would never have handled otherwise. And so, with my resignation from Fund Management in the City it came to be – the humble origins of Julian Roberts Fine Books.

My book dealing over the last two decades has taken several forms and deviations along the way to keep it current. Firstly, specialising in First Editions of literature and children’s books; then turning more mainstream with a move from London to the provinces focusing more on house calls and local auctions and in more recent years turning again to more specialist Antiquarian and First Edition titles. Where shall it turn next? – I know not, but I am ready for the challenge.
