Collecting Pre-Raphaelite

Collecting Pre-Raphaelite
The June 2012 seminar in the series on book-collecting organised jointly by the Institute of English Studies (London University) and the ABA Educational Trust was given by ABA member Paul Goldman.

Apart from being a distinguished dealer in rare books, Dr Paul Goldman is Honorary Professor at the Cardiff School of English, Communication, and Philosophy; a tutor in the MA in the History of the Book at London University (as well as at the London Rare Books School), and a former Assistant Keeper in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum.

His published work includes Victorian Illustrated Books 1850-1870 : The Heyday of Wood Engraving (1994); Victorian Illustration : The Pre-Raphaelites, the Idyllic School and the High Victorians (second edition, 2004) – “The originality of Paul Goldman’s mind and approach is clearly evident throughout this lovingly detailed and quietly scholarly volume” –Artnewsletter.com – and Beyond Decoration : The Illustrations of John Everett Millais (2005).

The seminar took place on Tuesday 12 June 2012 at Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU.

All the seminars are aimed at a broad audience including book-collectors, book-dealers, historians of all kinds, librarians, indeed at anyone with an interest in collecting any sort of text from the sixth former to the retired professor. The atmosphere is informal, as are the presentations. Many of the talks are illustrated by actual examples.

They are held in the University of London’s Senate House and run from 6.00 to 7.30 pm, usually on the second Tuesday of the month.
