John Randall

John Randall of Books of Asia.

I have been trading in antiquarian and scholarly books and historical documents relating to Asia since 1979.

When I applied to join the ABA nearly thirty years ago I did so for two reasons: so that my business might benefit by association with the reputation of the ABA as the home of the best booksellers in Britain; and secondly, to participate in the international opportunities offered by ILAB.

My reasons for standing for election to Council were similar.

In a world where the rapidly increasing number of traders dilutes the role of the antiquarian bookseller, and where the public interface to the trade is dominated by multinational companies with little knowledge or understanding of books, I believe it is more important than ever to enhance our reputation and to promote our expertise to the wider community of new book buyers, many of whom have grown up with the internet.

I would also like to see the oldest of the antiquarian bookselling associations back at the heart of ILAB, where we have not had a seat on the board for some years.
