Barbara Grigor-Taylor

I previously served on the Council from 1984-1988 and now proudly wear my ‘50-years a bookseller’ badge awarded in 2011. In 1960 I did an apprenticeship at John Howell Books, San Francisco, while still at university and graduated to my own shop in Auckland, New Zealand before coming to London in 1973. In 1974 I joined Paul Minet to open Piccadilly Rare Books in the Prince’s Arcade, Piccadilly, bought the shop and stock from him in 1976 and formed Cavendish Rare Books. It flourished there until 1989, moved to Frith Street, Soho, then to the States in 1993 and finally back to London in 2003. Over the years I have exhibited regularly at ABA, ABAA and ILAB bookfairs, establishing a solid relationship with booksellers and customers worldwide. I remain committed to the high standards and integrity of the ABA and its role in the international rare book market, the ILAB and International Congresses and book fairs – while keeping informed on the newest trends and technological developments in internet bookselling.
